About Artist

I studied at the University of Illinois where I finished my B.F.A. in Painting.   I then enrolled in graduate school where I received my Master's in Art Education.
During my studies at the University of Illinois, my work turned toward the surreal.  Always interested in the psychology of people and their role in society, my work refocused on the humanity of the ordinary man/woman.
In 1999 I moved to Santa Cruz, California.   After moving to Santa Cruz I gave up teaching full time to focus on my career as a painter.
Since this time I has been exploring the boundaries of portraiture.  Artists that have influenced my work are Jack Ekstrom, Nicolas de Stael, Max Beckman, Alice Neel, Hans Hoffman, Oskar Kokoschka, Chaim Soutine, Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Picasso's Analytical Cubist Period.
